Big Thief's Adrianne Lenker announces two new albums, songs and instrumentals on 4AD. songs and instrumentals are two distinct collections, both written and recorded in April after Big Thief's March tour was abruptly cut short due to coronavirus. After returning to the states from Europe, Lenker decamped to a one room cabin in the mountains of western Massachusetts. The album's stunning artwork are watercolor paintings done by Adrianne's grandmother, Diane Lee.

Adrianne Lenker is forever putting out incredible songs with ‘Big Thief’ and alone. Her latest solo double album ‘songs and instrumentals’ is no exception. Lenker’s heart-wrenching ‘songs’ is bound to open wounds that require the ambient calamine lotion of ‘instrumentals’, so I recommend listening to the albums in that order. If you’ve only got time to cry to one song today, try ‘anything’.
