Joi Noir are a euphoric alt-cult-rock band who have been compared to the Banshees mainly due to the presence of enigmatic Russian chanteuse Olga Gallo. Joi Noir take their name from their (erstwhile) constituent parts, namely Olga Gallo (voice), Igor Plotnikov (guitars) and their late drummer Jack Kuznetsov. Both hailing from Russia, Olga and Igor met in Moscow and moved to Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo – hence the Noir in their moniker – before decamping to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and eventually relocating to the city of Barcelona. Joi Noir’s raw, minimalist approach harkens back to new wave, industrial and post punk bands. The band's expansive travels offer international experience and a universal edge to the duo’s lithe and lo-fi resurrection of post-punk spark with a graceful touch of modern sheen.
Starting to get some good coverage and reviews Joi Noir channel a very 80's rock and pop sound into a straight ahead rock record for modern ears. It's a hotch potch of influences from this Russian duo no doubt coming from their travels around the world and it's sound meshes with a kind of euro-influenced rock with post-punk edges. Check
