For nearly two decades, Rossen had been a crucial component of GrizzlyBear, whose shared harmonies and interlaced textures reimagined music ofthe early aughts. He is also a founding member of the acclaimed folk andelectronica outfit Department of Eagles. Rossen left the close-knit nest ofBrooklyn many years ago, first for an isolated patch of land in upstate NewYork and then for Santa Fe, where he slowly built the world that is ‘YouBelong There’ largely in his high desert home. Rossen bought himself anupright bass (one of his instruments as a kid), along with the cello andperformed almost all of the parts on the album himself, with Chris Bear ofGrizzly Bear contributing as a rare guest on ‘Tangle’. Best known as aguitarist, Rossen took up woodwinds, too, buying several cheap studentmodels and learning just enough to understand the rudiments.

Daniel Rossen is bringing us a solo album, but the sound on You Belong There is just as full as his work with Grizzly Bear thanks to his enchanting melodies and mastery of guitar, cello and woodwind instruments as well as jazzy drums from Grizzly Bear member Chris Bear.
