As the singer of Upchuck, theGeorgia punk band whose music is as sharp as ascythe, KT has felt fierce energy inside her wellbefore she had the band as an outlet throughwhich to channel it. Upchuck’s Domino debut is ‘I’m Nice Now’,recorded at Sonic Ranch Studio in Texas withproducer Ty Segall. But don’t mistake newfoundniceness for weakness. It’s self-preservation:“Inthis world of constant distractions and stressors it’simportant to keep your mind, body, and spirit saneand sound enough to continue through thisseemingly never-ending fight,” says KT. With ‘I’m Nice Now’, Upchuck channels theirfeverishness into an album that, yes, is filled withrage. But in addition to being a continuation of theirmusical exorcism, the album delivers a sharpcritique of the powers that be, lamenting why theystill have to be those in power.
