Initially, Miles Davis was just going to record a version of Spanish composer and vituoso pianist, Joaquin Rodrigo’s classical guitar piece Concerto De Aranjuez after composer, arranger and regular collaborator, Gil Evans had transposed the music from the only known recording. However, this got Davis and Evans’ interested in more Spanish music and they began researching the country’s folk and dance music for what would become Sketches Of Spain. The album was recorded between 1959-60 and is regarded as one of his many classics.
