Originally released on April 4, 1995, Alien Lanes served as the first Guided by Voices album to be released on Matador Records. With 28 tracks spanning the course of 41 minutes, the album would fundamentally alter the concept of what a rock and roll record could be. Bursting at the seams with classic rock bravado (�Game of Pricks�, �Closer You Are�), anthemic power pop (�My Valuable Hunting Knife�, �Motor Away�), punk (�Pimple Zoo�, �My Son Cool�), psychedelic experimentalism (�Ex-Supermodel�, �Alright�), and tape-warped ballads ( �King And Caroline�, �Blimps Go 90�, �Chicken Blows�) Alien Lanes dips and dives between genres and moods with breakneck efficiency and a remarkable amount of intellect and emotion bolstered by the abstract poetry of songwriter and front-man Bob Pollard.

Absolute D.I.Y/Lo-fi classic 'Alien Lanes' finds its way back into our racks in style with this reissue on blue, green and red multi-coloured vinyl. Their first LP for Matador (though their 8th LP proper) GBV signed a deal for $100,000 and this record cost them just $10 of that to make. Released in '94 and featuring the 'classic lineup' this record shows the formidable songwriting talent of Robert Pollard and his ability to create no-nonsense guitar-pop bangers. Though most GBV records have at least one fully fledged anthem on them we are spoilt here with some of their best - 'Watch Me Jumpstart', 'Game of Pricks', 'Motor Away', 'My Valuable Hunting Knife' to name but a few - this record encapsulates the spirit of GBV and is the perfect starting point for anyone wanting to get into one of the best bands of all time.
